You should read this
You should read this book: "Taking the Guesswork out of Applying the Bible" by Jack Kuhatschek. It's great! It talks a lot about what I've been saying in this blog. God's word is for all people at all times - we just need to make sure we understand it was delivered at a particular point in time so it may not speak to us culturally in our setting, but the basic message is the same for everyone.

One of the passages in this book that really hit me was when he talked about the story of the rich young man. He pointed out that the point of this story is not to sell all your possessions and give them to the poor. Rather, this young man was so caught up in his wealth that he completely ignored his relationship with God. So long as God is the focus of our life, money isn't a problem. For me, this was enlightening and inspiring! The bible can be understood and can make sense to us today.
